Sherry, a 45-year-old Indigenous woman with a hearing impairment, spent two years working closely with BEST Employment, a registered provider of Disability Employment Services (DES), to overcome barriers and achieve her employment goals.
Through BEST Employment's tailored support, which included skills development, personalised guidance, and reverse marketing to local employers, Sherry successfully landed a role cleaning at the Aboriginal Hostel Limited. Since starting her job Sherry has been thriving in her position, crediting both her strong rapport with co-workers and the organisation’s inclusive and supportive approach to employees with disabilities.
Sherry has since expressed her gratitude to BEST, and her employer also provided glowing feedback regarding Sherry's seamless integration into the team and her positive contributions in her role.
BEST Employment is proud to have played a part in Sherry’s achievement. Through the Australian Government’s DES initiative, they provide individuals with disabilities, injuries, or health conditions with the tools and assistance needed to prepare for, find, and maintain meaningful employment. Services include resume writing, skills development, and connecting individuals with suitable job opportunities.
Sherry’s story is a powerful example of resilience, determination, and the impact of tailored support services in enabling individuals to achieve their potential. She plans to continue excelling in her current role and credits her success to the strong partnership with BEST Employment.
