Participant's Inspiring Journey Towards Independence with BEST Community Connections Inverell
Inverell, NSW – BEST Community Connections Inverell, a dedicated NDIS Service Provider supporting adults with disabilities, has made a profound impact on one participant’s life, helping him transition from heavily supported living to a near-independent lifestyle.
The 38-year-old male participant, who has autism and an intellectual disability, joined BEST Community Connections in 2018. At the time, he relied heavily on his family for his daily living needs, including shopping, meal preparation, medication management, and other essential tasks. His family provided constant assistance, ensuring his day-to-day requirements were met.
Upon engaging with BEST Community Connections, the participant initially received Drop-In Assistance with Daily Living Supports. This allowed his family to rest while skilled staff worked closely with him to build foundational skills for independence. Over the years, with the ongoing dedication of staff and partnership with his family, this participant has made remarkable progress and transformed his lifestyle.
Today, the participant is living almost independently, supported by drop-in visits only a few times a week. These visits ensure he receives assistance and guidance in completing chores, maintaining personal hygiene, shopping for groceries, and planning and preparing meals. Additionally, he has gained newfound confidence that has allowed him to actively engage in the community.
He is now a regular attendee at the BEST Community Connections Centre, participating in enjoyable activities such as cinema outings, ten-pin bowling, and exercise classes. Furthermore, he has developed positive social relationships, including a strong bond with another participant, whom he now shares a home with. The duo is widely recognised by the community for supporting and looking out for each other.
