INVERELL: BEST Community Connections (BCC), a registered NDIS Service Provider operating across the Inverell district, continues to demonstrate the impact of its personalised, inclusive services by supporting long-term participant Sonya (47) in her transition to Supported Independent Living (SIL).

Sonya, who has Down’s Syndrome, has been accessing BCC’s services for over 20 years, participating in Social and Community activities and Group Sessions. However, 2024 marks a significant milestone in her journey towards greater independence as she begins to transition into SIL following changes in her living circumstances due to her guardian’s advancing age.

Sonya now resides in a shared home with three other participants, where she has forged strong relationships while also enjoying the comfort of her own private space. With the support of 24-hour care provided by BCC, Sonya has developed vital daily living skills, expanded her social connections, and taken incremental steps towards greater self-sufficiency—a key priority for the organisation’s SIL programme.

BEST Community Connections prides itself on tailoring its services to individual needs, focusing on community inclusiveness and building independence. "Connections is all about what’s possible when people work together to change the lives of people with a disability," a spokesperson for BCC shared.

The organisation delivers a range of supports, including Social and Community Participation, Assistance with Daily Life, Capacity Building, Supported Independent Living, and Plan Management, alongside flexible respite options. Backed by qualified and passionate staff, the services aim to empower participants to achieve their personal goals and enhance their quality of life.

Sonya’s transition exemplifies the organisation’s commitment to fostering growth and independence within a supportive environment. Her newfound sense of autonomy and improved quality of life underline the meaningful impact of BCC’s efforts to enhance opportunities for adults with disabilities in Inverell.
