The Gunnedah community is celebrating a proud milestone as Joey, a long-time participant of BEST Employment’s Disability Employment Services (DES), reaches a significant point in his career journey.
Joey has worked with BEST Employment on and off since 2017, collaborating closely with our team to find job opportunities aligned with his interests and personal circumstances. Throughout the years, he has shown remarkable resilience and determination—undertaking training, earning certifications, and building his employability skills with BEST’s support.
One key step in his journey was completing a Traffic Control Course, which Joey pursued with guidance from BEST. The certification broadened his career options, and with continued support from his job coaches, he explored roles suited to his strengths.
A breakthrough came when a School Crossing Supervisor position became available. With assistance from BEST in navigating the application process—including police checks, PPE, and job readiness—Joey secured a casual role. His dedication and enthusiasm quickly stood out, leading to a permanent position.
Joey has now been thriving in his role for over 18 months, supported continuously by BEST and his employer. He attends regular fortnightly check-ins, where his journey continues to inspire others working toward employment goals.
Joey’s success highlights the impact of personalised support provided through DES, an Australian Government initiative that helps individuals with disabilities, injuries, or health conditions prepare for, gain, and sustain employment. BEST Employment, a registered DES provider, delivers tailored services including career planning, skill development, interview coaching, and post-placement support.
